Can I borrow a laptop from the Library?
Answered By: Daisy Goiburn

Yes! After signing the Laptop Borrowing Agreement and presenting a valid SMC ID to the Library Service Desk, patrons can borrow the following laptops and chargers for a short-term loan:

  • MacBook Pro laptop for a 48-hour loan

  • Mac charger w/ USB-C cord for a 48-hour loan

  • Universal charger w/ USB-C cord for a 4-hour loan

  • Chromebook + charger for a semester-long loan

Chromebooks are only available through the Laptop for the Term Program. You must first be approved for this program by submitting a request form or contacting Charlotte Norton (cgs5@stmarys-ca.edu) or Magaly Arias-Lobatos (ma19@stmarys-ca.edu). Once approved, return to the Library Service Desk to borrow the Chromebook.

Laptops cannot be borrowed by patrons with overdue loans or a history of not returning library technology.

In addition, 67 desktop computers (Mac and PC) for student, faculty, and staff use are located throughout the three floors of the library. A singular guest computer station is available on the first floor for community patrons.
