The New York Times

1. Navigate to nytimes.com on a web browser or on the A-Z databases list. 

   • If you are a new NYT user, click the “Log In” button in the upper right corner.

   • Scroll down and then select “Continue with work or school single sign-on”

   • If you have an existing NYT account, log in to your account using your current login method. Click on Account in the top-right corner, and continue to click through using the following flow:  Account settings → Email and Settings → “Connect” button next to “Work or School”

2. A pop-up will open. Enter your SMC-issued email and click “Continue.”

3. You may be redirected to SMC's login page and prompted to authenticate your access.

4. After you’ve successfully logged in using SMC's authentication system, you will be rerouted to nytimes.com, where you can personalize your New York Times preferences.

*Once you authenticate via SSO on the web, you can download the New York Times mobile apps (including The Athletic, NYT Cooking, NYT Games) and log in with the same credentials. 

Note: SMC Library's NYT all-access subscription is now live, allowing access to NYTimes Games as well as The Athletic! If you have an existing paid subscription to NYT with your SMC email and would like to use the institutional all-access pass, please cancel your personal subscription. After canceling, login to your NYT account with the SSO login method described above. If you have any issues with this transition, please contact the library. 

The Wall Street Journal

 Create your account using this link: https://partner.wsj.com/partner/saintmaryscollegeCA

Enter your SMC email, then get access to WSJ online. 

If you are having trouble accessing articles through your WSJ account, please click the WSJ link above to sign in again. 

Financial Times

Create an account using this link: https://sso.ft.com/sso/auth?entityID=https://idp.stmarys-ca.edu/entity

After you have created this new account, you will receive an email to set a password. (NOTE: if you receive an error message or a blank screen, you were still likely successful in creating an account. Some users have reported this glitch, but as long as you receive an email to set your password, you have an account.)

Chronicle of Higher Education 

To create an account:

1. Use this link: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/stmarys-ca.edu?url=https://www.chronicle.com/
2. Click on Sign In at the very top right of the screen.
3. Click the Sign Up link.
4. Create your account using your SMC email address.

You should now see "Site License Access Provided by Saint Mary's College of California" in the upper left and you are now able to read any article in its entirety. Each time you return to the Chronicle of Higher Education website, sign in with the login you created.
