Full online access to The New York Times is now available to the Saint Mary’s College of California community. Create an account using this link:


using your stmarys-ca.edu email address and a password of your choice.

SMC Library subscribes to the "NYTimes.com + Smartphone Apps". It includes the following:

  • NYTimes.com from any device
  • NYTimes app for iPhone, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 7+ and Android-powered phones

The NYTimes iPad app is not included in the group pass. However, you may still access and read nytimes.com from your tablet's browser.

If you already have a paid personal NYTimes.com account using your SMC email address, choose a different password when you register for the SMC group pass. If you have a free account, choose the option to link the accounts.

SMC has Academic Pass with IP Range: This option covers the entire faculty, staff, and student population. Eligible users are authenticated by subscribing institution IP address ranges rather than by email domain. 

Users must first register and create a login with the NYT through this link. Upon activation, you will be able to enjoy NYTimes.com from wherever you are - on or off campus by using your personal login. iPhone and Android apps are accessible using your personal NYT login.

Articles from 1850+ are available, although 1923-1980 are limited to 5 per day per user. 1850-1923 AND 1980 - present are unlimited access for SMC Group Pass users.

Renewing Your Pass

Passes are good for one year. To renew your pass, use the below link, click "Create Account," and create your account again with the same email address and password.
