Why can't I access an online library resource or database?
Answered By: David Kriegh

Many of the Library’s databases and other online resources are not available to the general public. If you are attempting to log into a database and not on campus, you will need to verify that you are an authorized user. Authorized users include current Saint Mary's students, faculty, and staff, as well as those using the library on-site. Alumni have limited access to certain databases. The use of these resources is restricted to academic research, scholarship, and other educational, personal, and non-commercial uses.

Database down: If you know you are an authorized user and still cannot connect to a database, please report it to the Library via Ask Us, or email Mike Jung, E-Resources Manager. Please include screenshots of error messages if able.

Firewalls: If you are trying to connect from your workplace, a firewall or other security system may be preventing access. Please notify your system administrator if you believe a setting is preventing you from accessing the Library’s databases. They may need to open Port 2048.

Browser settings: Sometimes the browser settings interfere with the normal functions of a database. Often this can be fixed by clearing your browsing history, cache, and cookies. For instructions on how to do this, please review the information provided by the most commonly supported browsers: Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, or Microsoft Edge.

Browser compatibility: Some databases do not support certain browsers, particular older ones like Internet Explorer. Consider replicating your access attempt on another browser to see if you experience the same problem.
